Japan's cherry blossoms are just starting to bloom, but fewer tourists will be around to admire the country's symbolic harbinger of spring, the nation's peak travel season.
Some, like Timothy Ho from Singapore, are canceling planned Japanese vacations. Mr. Ho was slated to take a romantic getaway on March 16 to a ski resort northwest of Tokyo with his wife.
"The week after we canceled, we were thinking that maybe we can plan for something else at the end of the year," said the 32-year-old Mr. Ho, who works at a recruitment consulting agency
